The Urarina live along the Urityacu and Corrientes rivers. The name is thought to derive from the word “ura” meaning below and “runa” meaning people. Their name means “people from down the river”. They hunt, fish, and gather fruits for food. The Urarina, Shimacu believe that a great flood destroyed many of their ancestors and that a family was able to transform into various animals and insects in order to survive.

Sustainability // The Bigger Story

LAC World Missions is working with the national churches to reach the unreached in their countries. Together they are able to send equipped and effective missionaries to unreached people groups in the Amazon. Pray for them as they work to bring the gospel to the Urarina.

To join in reaching the Urarina, Shimacu of Peru visit LAC World Missions.
