Thakali of Nepal

The Thakali are one of the 61 recognized ethnic groups in Nepal. The Thakali live in the Thak Sat Soe area of the southern Mustang district. The thirteen main Thakali villages are located along the Kali Gandaki Gorge, and the region is beside large Himalayan mountains.

The Thakali are a wealthy people group, and they controlled the trade southward to India and northward to Nepal. Because of their location, they are influenced by both Buddhism and Hinduism as well as pre-Buddhist animistic beliefs.

Engagement // What’s Happening Now

In 2015, a disastrous earthquake caused the death over 9000 people and displaced hundreds of thousands more. Since then repairs have been underway, but still much work needs to be done. Pray for churches in Nepal, that the resources would come to help rebuild churches and the communities.

Problem Solvers

Nepal Theological College (NTC) exists to glorify God and equip his people for ministry. They focus on discipleship, evangelism, and church planting. The college was founded in 1978 as a discipleship training center for the Assemblies of God of Nepal (AGN). Pray for this college as they send out church planters and workers to bring the good news to Nepal.

Partnership // Move Beyond
  • Pray that as churches are planted and the gospel is preached, Thakali would hear and put faith in Christ.
  • Pray for the students at NTC, that the Holy Spirit would empower them to do God’s will in their community.
  • Pray more churches are planted.
  • Pray for those who lost their homes due to the earthquake.
