Punjabi in Libya

The Punjabi are those who speak Punjabi and are from the Punjab region of Pakistan and India. The Punjabi primarily live in the Punjab region, but they also live in thirty other countries. Livelihood for the Punjabi vary depending on the country they live in.

There are approximately 2 million around the world, not including those in Pakistan and India. For the Punjabi, a caste refers to family divisions in an area who have common ancestry and traditional occupations. Castes are not wholly supported by religions, as Islam rejects the system. Diaspora Punjabi reflect multiple religious traditions of the Punjab region such as Islam, Hinduism, and Sikhism. Most Punjabi in Libya are Muslim.

Engagement // What’s Happening Now

According to the CIA World Factbook, Libya is 96.6 percent Muslim and only 2.7 percent Christian. Pray for church planting efforts in Libya and among Punjabi communities.

Sustainability // The Bigger Story

There are large numbers of Punjabi around the world including the United States and Canada. Pray for churches in areas with easier access to the gospel, that they may share the gospel with those who could share the gospel with Punjabi in Libya.
