Nohchi Chechen of Russia

The Nohchi Chechen live in the valleys of the Caucasus Mountains of southern Russia between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea. The Chechen are mostly farmers, though many also work in oil refineries or as stockbreeders. The Chechen people tend to marry outside their own clans, as marriage between blood is forbidden within a span of three generations. Chechens are among the most devout Muslims in the former Soviet Union.*

Engagement — What’s Happening Now

There are over 1.3 million Nohchi Chechens in Russia, with only about 0.01% Evangelical believers among them. The primary religion among the Nohchi Chechens is Islam, and this faith heavily influences their everyday lives.*

Sustainability — The Bigger Story

Russia as a whole has about a 1.2% Evangelical presence,* but the Nohchi Chechens are still in dire need of hearing the Gospel, as there is next to no Christian presence among them.

Partnership — Move Beyond

Please spend a few minutes in prayer for:

– The Holy Spirit to move on the hearts of the leaders of the Chechen people, opening their minds to the message of the Gospel

– The establishment of a strong national church among the Chechen people

– Courage and protection for the believers sharing the Gospel among the Nohchi Chechens

– The Lord to call willing servants to Russia to minister among such people groups as the Nohchi Chechens
