Fur of East Africa

In the sixteenth century, the land of the Fur was called Southern Nubia, now it is called Dafur, which in Arabic means Homeland of the Fur. Sudan is home to large populations of both Arab and African people groups. There are over 1.3 million Fur living in Sudan. Because of the strong Arab influence, most Fur are Muslim.

 Engagement // What’s Happening Now

There are few Christians in Sudan and few, if any, workers among them. Pray for church planting initiatives as well as compassion ministries who can meet the physical and mental needs of Fur people.

 Sustainability // The Bigger Story

Pray for a full translation of the Bible in their language, that as access to the gospel is provided so is access to the full scripture.

 Partnership // Move Beyond

Please spend a few minutes in prayer for:

  • Pray for men and women willing and called to establish churches in Dafur.
  • Pray for opportunities and open doors to share the gospel.
  • Pray for peace amid the animosity that surrounds many of the Fur’s lives.
