The Shawiya live primarily in Algeria and speak the Tachawit language.
After gaining independence from France, Algeria removed Christian missionaries in an attempt to promote Islam as the state religion. While many Shawiya are Sunni Muslims, they hold distinctive cultural rituals.
With the immigration of many Shawiya to Europe, new possibilities exist for missionaries to reach this people group with the gospel.
Pray that the Shawiya encounter and be receptive to the gospel in Belgium.
