Berber, Kabyle in France

The Kabyle are an ethnic Berber tribe who are originally from the mountainous regions of North Africa. Millions of Kabyle have immigrated from North Africa to Europe. France alone hosts over 700,000 Kabyle. France is one of the most important trading partners for North African countries.  Many of the Kabyle who migrated are merchants. The Kabyle are known to be proud but very hospitable. They believe that the preservation of the family unit is one of the most important values which one must strive toward. The Kabyle practice Islam and the veneration of Muslim saints.

 Engagement // What’s Happening Now

There are 712,000 Kabyle in France and another 67,000 in other European countries, but there are over 5 million in Algeria who have limited access to the gospel. Pray that through the Word being spread among the Kabyle in Europe, the work can be extended to the Kabyle in Algeria.

 Sustainability // The Bigger Story

Global Initiative aims to train the local church globally to reach out to their Muslim neighbors. In the article Eye On… Islam: New Brothers and Sisters in Europe, Global Initiative challenges believers in Europe to love their Muslim neighbors.

They state, “We believe that God has a magnificent plan for Europe and the Muslims who live there, and we know that God will accomplish His plans, even if His people respond like Jonah. Let’s be willing and eager to see God’s kingdom advance among Muslims in every context, and let’s continue to pray over Europe.”

Partnership // Move Beyond

Please spend a few minutes in prayer for:

  • Pray the church in France will extend love and friendship to the Kabyle in their communities.
  • Pray that through the work of outreaches that promote discussion, many Muslims will hear the gospel.
  • Pray that the few Kabyle believers may be a light to their friends and families.
