Bengali, Muslim in Italy

The Bengali are indigenous to the Bengal region which consists of Bangladesh and West Bengal, a state of India. The culture and social classifications of Bengalis are diverse; they can be found in all social levels in various occupations. As a whole, they strive for excellence and are a proud people. In India, Bengalis live in small villages and are farmers. Most Bengalis are Muslim, and most Muslim Bengalis live in Bangladesh. There are approximately 93,000 Bengali Muslims in Italy. Many immigrate to Italy for work and set up shops and markets throughout Italy’s cities.

 Engagement // What’s Happening Now

Since the economic boom of the 1960s, Europe has seen a large influx of immigrants many of whom are from Muslim predominant areas. According to the CIA World Factbook, Italy has an estimated 800,000 to 1 million Muslims. On the other hand, there are over 1300 AG churches in Italy. Pray the church in Italy would be the first to extend love and compassion to Bengali Muslims in their communities.

 Sustainability // The Bigger Story

In the article, “We’re Seeing a Spiritual Awakening Among Muslims,” Mark Brink emphasizes that the ignition to a spiritual awakening among Muslims is prayer. Because the problem lies in the spiritual forces of this dark world, prayer is essential for Muslims to see the light of the gospel.

 Partnership // Move Beyond

Please spend a few minutes in prayer for:

  • Prayerfully consider joining Jumaa Prayer Initiative, which is Global Initiatives weekly prayer initiative that is specific to praying for Muslim UPGs.
  • As believers go about their days, pray God provides opportunities to share the gospel with Bengali Muslims.
  • Pray for the hearts of Bengali Muslims, that it will grow open to the gospel.
