Asheninca is a language spoken by most tribes in northern Peru. There are several geographical varieties of the language. Ucayali is one of the dialects of Asheninca found in the Pasco and Ucayali region. There are approximately 8,600 Asheninca, Ucayali. Most practice ethnic religions which blend animism and ancient traditions. The Asheninca, Ucayali are an unreached people group with only about 0.30% of their population identifying Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Engagement // What’s Happening Now
In the article “Pray for the Amazon”, Bryan Webb shares about his trek into the Amazon to meet and reach people from the Amazon Basin in Peru. He states,
“Reaching these remote villages will incur risk and require commitment. Making a difference here can’t be accomplished over a long weekend or on a short-term trip. It will exact a price.
Yet telling them is our responsibility. Christ gave the Church one overarching mandate: to go and keep going until every nation, tribe, language and kindred has heard the gospel. But for every village they contact, there are many more that remain untouched by the gospel.”
To join in reaching the Asheninka, Ucayali visit LAC Missions.
Sustainability // The Bigger Story
Some may find surprising that there are unreached people groups in Latin America but the reality Is that many have yet to hear the gospel. The Asheninca, Ucayali live in remote, hard to reach villages and often do not have access to an adequate gospel presentation. Latin America & Carribean World Missions aims to plant churches among those who have not had the opportunity to hear the good news of salvation. Their mission is to mobilize the local church and to collaborate with their missionaries to plant churches among the lost.
Visit the LAC Unreached People Groups (UPG) website to read more about their vision to reach the unreached.
Partnership // Move Beyond
Please spend a few minutes in prayer for:
- Pray for LAC world missions and the AG in Peru, that their partnership will produce effective church plants in Asheninca villages.
- Pray for the Asheninca to encounter the power of God against evil.
- Pray the hearts of Asheninca will be open to the gospel.
